Sports Desk:
Afghanistan recovered from Shakib Al Hasan’s double strike in the first over to reach 53-3 in their second innings at lunch on the third day of the one-off Test against Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.
They so far stretch their lead to 193 after gaining a handsome 137 runs lead as Bangladesh was all out for 205 in the first innings.
Opener Ibrahim Zadran was batting on 20 with Asghar Afghan on 16 at the first break of the day.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan claimed 2-21 and that too came in the first over when he removed opener Ihsanullah (4) and first innings centurion Rahmat Shah for duck in the consecutive deliveries.
That left Afghans at tricky 4-2 but Zadran and Hasmatullah Shahidi resisted briefly which came to an end with the dismissal of the latter as he edged one to Soumya Sarkar at slip off the delivery of off-spinner Nayeem Hasan. Shahidi scored 12 runs.
Zadran and Afghan then saw off the session without any fuss.
Earlier, resuming the day on 194-8, Bangladesh was able to add just 11 runs to be all out for 205 runs.
Mosaddek Hossain Saikat was not out on 48. Mominul Haque was the highest scorer for the side with 52.
Afghan skipper Rashid Khan snapped up 5-55, his career best and second successive five-for following his match-winning 5-82 against Ireland in the previous Test match. Mohammad Nabi grabbed 3-56.
